Appearance: Neville Longbottom started out as a pudgy kid. Throughout the years, he outgrew the pudgy shy kid, and became a ruggedly handsome young man. His dress borders on somewhat stuffy, but he did attend boarding school so there are some habits to break.
History: History
Personality:
Neville's absentmindedness is one of the first things that we notice about him. He has lost his pet frog Trevor aboard the Hogwarts Express. He looks like he would lose his head if it weren't attached to his body. This is a frustrating personality trait for Neville, as it affects his schoolwork, and causes him embarrassment when he has to admit that he lost something. This seems to be an ongoing problem with Neville, although, in later years, he grows into himself a little more and becomes a more confident man.
Confidence has always been a struggle for Neville. His family, at one point, thought he might be a squib which did nothing for his self-esteem. Meeting the Golden Trio aboard the Hogwarts Express, actually put Neville on a path that changed his life forever. His time with Dumbledore's Army did great things to improve his confidence issues. He knew he was strong in Herbology, but assuming a leadership role over the DA after Harry left showed that Neville is a good wizard in his right, and he can stand on his own two feet in a fight.
Neville was sorted into Gryffindor, and by definition that makes him courageous.He struggled with self-confidence, but he stood up to his friends when they were trying to break the rules in his first year. Neville continued to grow until he stood up to both the Carrows and Lord Voldemort in trying to help Harry. Neville is a loyal friend, and he considers Harry somewhat of a kindred spirit due to their similar upbringings. Both boys lost their parents at extremely young ages and bonded because of it. Neville is also a very dedicated person when he finds something to believe in.
One of the things that motivates Neville is his desire to make sure that Bellatrix LeStrange doesn't do what she did to his parents to anyone else. He has a clear sense of right and wrong, and he doesn't want anyone to grow up the way that he did. Neville is not afraid to take risks to do what he believes is right. In the year Voldemort took over the school, that was shown by his willingness to go against the dark wizards the Carrows more than once, endangering himself openly. Faced with Harry's "death", Neville summons the courage within him to stand up to Lord Voldemort, and he is not scared at all.
Neville is a humble person, and to that end, he doesn't hold the same prejudices against non-purebloods that some of his peers have. Yes, Neville is a pureblood, but it isn't something he flaunts to make it seem like he is better than everyone else. He befriends everyone because he has a good heart.
Neville's weaknesses are more about the things that he fears, and less about being a weak person. Neville fears being alone. He had his Gran after his parents were injured, but she was so lost in her grief that she was not properly affectionate with her Grandson. He made friends at school, but he was always part of the larger group. He never really has a best friend like Seamus and Dean and often felt like a fifth wheel in his house. He was afraid of letting anyone too close, only to lose them like he did his parents.
Neville fears mental illness much more than he fears death. He has seen his parents live in St Mungos for so long without memories and normal lives, and he would rather die than end up in that same situation. He says to Harry at one point: "I'm proud to be their son, but I don't think I'm ready for everyone to know yet." He never admits that fear to another soul, but deep down he thinks that there is some defect inside of him that makes him more vulnerable.

So... right... I guess I use this to talk? Alright... well here goes. I am not one to back down from a fight... at least not anymore. I worked hard to get where I am, and now... being here. I just... [He pauses, looking down] I feel like I am letting everyone down. I'm here and I should be there. Do you understand? They need me.... what am I supposed to do now?
